Road Trip 2002

MapDay Ten

Saucier, MS - Lake Charles, LA
Date: 06/20/2002
Distance: 310 miles
Weather: Wicked hot. Sunny, humid, mid 90's.

Weird noises at 4:30 am. Wild dog log creatures from the sound of it. Ogden thankfully stayed quiet.

Rain on the tent. Only a little. We stayed dry.

Head out at 8:30 am. Gulfport, MS

Stop for breakfast at a supermarket. Corin gets the low down from the girls at the checkout. They laughed at the mention of swimming in the Gulf - Jellyfish.

Head for the Gulf of Mexico. Walk on the beach. It's only 9:00 am and it feels like your shirt might be on fire.

Cruised on the highway for most of the day, since there didn't appear to be much to see, and even if there was, it was too hot to get out of the car.

Stopped in Lafayette, LA. According to our book, 40% of the people there speak Cajun French. It was clearly true as the street signs said "Rue" instead of street. We went to a lovely duck and beaver park to gawk at the squawks.

It was starting to get late, so we decided to stop at a state park near Lake Charles, LA.

Gulf of Mexico. Gulf of Mexico.

Theres no downhill skiing in Mississippi because it's too darn hot and it's too darn flat. Welcome to Louisiana (Below it says Bienvenue en Louisiane"

Over the Mississippi River. Louisiana is swampy... even the highway was built on one. Are alligators ever road kill?

Jared's perspective. Ogden's perspective.

The swamp areas at our campground. Home for the night.
