Road Trip 2002

Route MapDay Thirty-Five

Vancouver, BC- Kamloops, BC
Date:
07/15/2002
Distance: 310 miles
Weather: Sunny 90's

This morning the baby in the campsite next to ours began crying right before Ogden. So, Corin got an early start, and after walking the dog was the first person to swim in the pool for the day. We soon had our site packed up and were ready to leave.

We set our destination to Stanley Park, a kind of Vancouver equlivant to NYC's Central Park. Stanley park is set away from the city, thoroughly beautiful, and full of fun activities for all. We drove around much of the park and then visited the amazing Vancouver Aquarium. Jared liked the playful sea otters, and Corin, of course, liked the sea lions.

On the way out of the city we stopped again at KOKO, now open, and had a delicious sushi lunch. Really really delicious.

We drove northeast on highway 1 for the rest of the day. This is quite the scenic route, and we stopped briefly to look down on "Hell's Gate." It is really a narrow part of the river, that sees a tremendous amount of water flow and is very deep. (Oh, and we also stopped for an ice cream at a rest stop on the way.)

We finished for the night in Kamloops, and before driving to the provincial park (no more private campgrounds for us), we sidetraked to buy dinner, dog toys (many old toys being lost somewhere in Sophia's lawn/pond), and a Canadian travel book. When we reached Paul Lake Provincial Park we choose site 90 out of 90. The three of us (and millions of mosquitos) had a great wooded private site, hopefully to sleep late in tomorrow morning.
